Hearing the Father's Voice
I believe the Spirit of God wants to teach us how to hear the voice of the Father.
Let’s take a look at a story in the bible Jesus spoke about where we can see the senses still functioning even after the death of someone on earth.
Luke 16:16-31 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. KJV
In this story there was a rich man and a beggar, Lazarus, who were real people and they both died and the rich man was in Hell and he lifted up his eyes and he saw Abraham and Lazarus, the beggar, on the other side in Paradise. In the Book of Ephesians chapter 4 this place was called “captivity” and it tells us Jesus led captivity captive,
Eph 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, KJV
When Jesus was resurrected from the dead Jesus came to this place called, “captivity” where the righteous dead were held captive and He led them all to heaven to Paradise that is now in heaven. Abraham’s bosom is part of heaven.
In this particular story Jesus told us here, there were two places, “Hell” and “Heaven” and there was a great gulf between the two.
I want you to notice that both the rich man and Lazarus, the beggar, were dead and their bodies were buried on the earth and yet they talked to one another and they saw one another. The rich man was tormented in the flame of Hell and wanted water brought to him from Lazarus’ side in Paradise. So this man felt thirsty and he felt pain from the flames of Hell. Notice both men had their same physical senses which they retained in their spirit and soul. The root of our physical senses is actually in our spirit. So these men had their same five physical senses of taste, touch, sight, smell and hearing that they had on the physical earth.
We have to understand that our spirit man has the same taste, touch, hearing, seeing, and smelling as our physical man. And just as with the physical senses we receive information from the physical environment so with our spirit man’s senses we receive information from the spirit environment. This is why people say they heard angels singing during worship or during a practice session. And if you have been around death, maybe cancer, there is often in the natural realm a certain smell. There is a very spiritual smell to death. We must start thinking in terms that our spirit man has senses.
